Many farmers and gardeners have followed the tradition of planting by the moon. The position of the moon in the zodiac is used to calculate the best planting dates.

Tom MacCubbin's "Moon Sign Planting Dates" for the month of July, 2009:

Above ground crops: July 1, 2, 6, 7, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30.
Below ground crops: July 11, 12, 16, 17, 20, 21.

For August, 2009:

Above ground crops: August 2, 3, 4, 20, 21, 25, 26, 29, 30, 31.
Below ground crops: August 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17.
